8. The Boogeyman Kills A Baby - The Boogeyman

The Flash Baby
Sony Pictures Releasing

The Boogeyman may be a not-bad, not-great adaptation of Stephen King's short story of the same name, but at least begins in suitably, jarringly unnerving fashion.

That is to say, the film opens on a shot of a baby sleeping soundly in its crib, before the titular supernatural presence enters the room while assuming the guise of the baby's father, Lester Billings (David Dastmalchian).

At that moment, the invisible presence grabs the baby as the camera pans around the room.

As it passes back past the crib, we can see the entity doing something to the baby, but as the camera finally settles on a photo of the Billings family, the baby's screaming suddenly, violently stops, as blood splatters on the photo.

That's... pretty damn messed up for a PG-13 horror movie, and establishes from the jump that director Rob Savage (Host, Dashcam) is going to push that "family-friendly" content rating as far as humanly and artistically possible.
