Want proof that people love a good nitpick? Look no further than this supposed "plot hole" from all-time classic The Shawshank Redemption, which, apparently, completely breaks Andy Dufresne's climactic escape from the titular prison.

Andy earns his freedom by digging a hole in the wall of his cell - a process that takes 19 years - using a rock hammer. To conceal this act, he hangs a poster over the hole, so, to anybody who enters his cell, the tunnel will not be visible. But when the prison guards find Andy's cell empty the morning after he escapes, the poster is miraculously sitting in place: so, how did Andy stick it to the wall from inside the tunnel?

It's a fair question, but the explanation is actually quite simple, even if people may not jump to it right away.

If you look at some of the other posters in Andy's cell, you can see that they're attached to the wall via their top-two corners only, with the bottom two left hanging...

...while his Raquel Welch poster (the one covering the hole), has tape on its top-two corners, and a small piece on the bottom left.

So, all Andy would have to do is lift the poster from the bottom, and climb into the tunnel. Gravity would then do the rest, causing the poster to fall back into place and cover his escape.

That piece of tape on the bottom left likely wasn't pressed to the wall properly, because there's no way Andy could've done it from inside the tunnel.
