10 Movie Actors Who Did Career WORST Performances In 2020
8. Amy Adams - Hillbilly Elegy
On paper, Ron Howard's new drama Hillbilly Elegy seemed like a sure-fire awards hopeful. And then it actually came out.
A quintessential Oscar-bait failure, this mawkish drama thoroughly squandered its talented cast, and though Glenn Close just about escaped with her dignity in tact, the same can't quite be said for Amy Adams.
Adams, a six-time Oscar nominee who is long overdue the win, is gunning for an Academy Award here with such desperation that her character, addict Bev Vance, feels more like an SNL parody of an awards-baiting role than a genuinely plausible human being.
Far too much of Adams' work in Hillbilly Elegy is charactertised by Big Acting - overacting, if we're being blunt - which in turn renders numerous potential-filled scenes unintentionally comical.
Adams has very few poor performances to her name, and virtually none since she became an A-lister, so it was especially surprising to see her mistaking more acting for better acting.
