10 Movie Actors Who Did Career WORST Performances In 2020
3. Ed Helms - Coffee & Kareem
Ed Helms is a terrifically talented comedy actor, best known for his performance as Stu in The Hangover trilogy and, of course, as Andy Bernard on the American version of The Office.
Despite proving himself an expert at playing uptight oddballs, he flailed around helplessly in Netflix's woefully lousy buddy cop comedy Coffee & Kareem.
Though Helms is absolutely well-cast as bumbling goofball cop James Coffee, he ultimately doesn't do anything with the part - thinly written as it admittedly is - but basically act out Andy Bernard: Police Officer.
Even the banter with his girlfriend's (Taraji P. Henson) 12-year-old son Kareem (Terrence Little Gardenhigh) falls mostly flat, and Helms' performance is less charming than it is actively, ear-splittingly grating.
Were the film not salvaged from one-star territory by Betty Gilpin's thoroughly bonkers performance as a fellow cop, Helms' work would likely seem even more obnoxious.
He's proven in films like Cedar Rapids and Jeff, Who Lives at Home that he's capable of pulling off more adventurous dramatic fare, so it's a shame to see him leaning back on easy paychecks like this.
