There are plenty of haters in the world - even the likes of Tom Hanks have their detractors. Still, it's incredibly rare/damn-near impossible to find someone with negative shade to throw at Steve Buscemi. He's one of Hollywood's most unconventional performers, with a unique look, energy and presence that makes him invaluable to the silver screen.

Some of his best work includes timeless classics like The Big Lebowski, Fargo (the movie, not the show, he's not Billy Bob Thornton) and Reservoir Dogs. However, while he's effortlessly watchable in each of those, it was Boardwalk Empire that proved how much of a powerhouse performer he could be.

Before this show, he was primarily a supporting actor who played creeps/comedy roles. This was a solid little niche for him, but taking on the leading part of Nucky Thompson was a genius move on his part.

Nucky was complex. He was intimidating and strong but weak in ways you could barely see on the surface. His struggles between politics and crime were also reflected in his core being. He felt like a deeply flawed man who wanted something more, and it tore him apart.

Buscemi captured all of this and more in easily his best performance.
