10 Movie Actors Who Only Played By Their Own Rules

8. Adam Sandler - Choosing Goofy Comedy Over Respectable Drama

Anyone who's ever sat down to watch the likes of Punch-Drunk Love, Funny People or The Meyerowitz Stories will fully understand exactly what Adam Sandler is capable of when given some interesting dramatic material to play with.

However, instead of regularly flexing these dramatic muscles, Sandler has mostly preferred to lend his talents to some of the worst attempts at "comedy" you're ever likely to see. But, the iconic star of the likes of Big Daddy and Happy Gilmore seemingly doesn't care and is more than happy to keep earning the big bucks for messing around with his various buddies in the likes of Pixels, Grown Ups, The Ridiculous Six and *shudders* Jack & Jill.

Even when Sandler drew widespread acclaim recently with his impressive turn as Howard Ratner in Uncut Gems, he managed to sandwich that performance between two disappointing Netflix showings in Murder Mystery and Hubie Halloween. You have to imagine that if Sandler felt like pursuing respectable drama for a lengthy spell, he'd likely add a number of other stellar performances to his hit-and-miss CV.

But, with the actor recently signing on to produce another four films under the Netflix banner, expect the comedy superstar to continue starring in whatever questionable projects he feels like for the foreseeable future.
