They are Sex Bob-Omb and they’re here to make us wish they were a real band.

Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim Vs The World does a lot of things right. From it’s gleefully quirky comedy and pitch-perfect writing to its super slick editing and visual presentation, this flick showcases exactly why Wright is such a beloved filmmaker.

Likewise, it wouldn’t be one of Wright’s films if the soundtrack weren’t as equally as exquisite. And for this we can look to the assortment of musical acts featured in it, with The Clash At Demon Head and Katayanagi Twins being other ensembles deserving of their own place on this list

However, none of those groups can compare to the distorted, crunchy garage sounds of Sex Bob-Omb.

The band was inspired by the lo-fi sounds of music legend Beck, who penned and produced several tracks for the film. Songs like “We Are Sex Bob-Omb”, which accompanies the film’s opening credits, and “Garbage Truck” exude an effortless coolness that perfectly matches the alternative indie world the film is set.

Whether it’s Scott (Michael Cera) or Young Neil (Johnny Simmons) on bass, Sex Bob-Omb would doubtlessly put on an excellent show, and we want to be there for it.
