Only in the dreamlike world of David Robert Mitchell’s Under The Silver Lake full of hidden codes, a dog killer, and an owl lady can there be a band with the name Jesus And The Brides Of Dracula.

The plot follows 20-somethings burnout Sam (Andrew Garfield) find himself falling down a rabbit hole when investigating the mysterious disappearance of his neighbour. The breadcrumb trail of cryptic messages he follows soon leads him to the fictional group’s hit “Turning Teeth”, which also happens to be another piece of the ever-growing puzzle.

Beginning with a warm horn fanfare, the track then shifts into a serene melody complete with bizarre lyrics. The song perfectly matches the film’s bonkers tone and is just another part of what makes Under The Silver Lake an underappreciated masterpiece.

And for this sonic work of genius, we can thank visionary composer Disasterpiece (aka Richard Vreeland), who also provided the phantasmagoric synth track for Mitchell’s previous film It Follows. While Disasterpiece penned the score, it was real-life band Silversun Pickups who performed it - though they don’t appear in the film.

If these two musical forces could collaborate again, that would be appreciated by everybody.
