After a string of high profile flops in the last decade (sayonara, The Lone Ranger and Mortdecai) along with an increasingly messy, very public divorce which has seen his former partner Amber Heard and Depp himself accuse one another of domestic abuse, Johnny Depp’s star seems to finally be fading after decades of onscreen omnipresence.
It’s sad to see the supremely talented thespian fade from the limelight but will hopefully this time outside of public life will provide the actor a chance to seek help handling his turbulent private life and recurring much-publicised issues with addiction.
As a result, the major franchise responsible for Depp’s superstardom will be rebooted in the near future, and although production company Disney have yet to confirm or deny the presence of Depp in the upcoming sixth instalment, the very fact that it’s referred to as a reboot, along with the actor’s ongoing troubles, imply that Captain Jack may be doomed to an offscreen death before the titular pirates set sail onscreen again.
