10 Movie Characters Saved By Stupidly Impossible Luck

5. Shaun And Liz - Shaun Of The Dead

Zombies in movies are normally the stuff of nightmares - many of us grew up watching George Romero's classic Dead trilogy and spent many a sleepless night in fear of the undead stumbling into our bedrooms to devour us alive. In the hands of Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright, however, they were transformed into figures of fun. Shaun Of The Dead's wonderful fusion of genre references and silly jokes makes it one of the funnies horror comedies of all time, but that doesn't prevent its protagonists from getting backed into a corner from which there is seemingly no escape. Having holed up in the local pub the survivors find themselves completely surrounded by zombies and facing imminent death. Fortunately for them the British Army turn up at the very last second and proceed to shoot down the zombie hordes in a matter of seconds. It might be a silly way to end things, but it's certainly in keeping with the stupid and unpredictable events which preceeded it.
