10 Movie Characters That Sequels Totally Forgot
4. Effie Trinket - The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part Two
Along with Jennifer Lawrence's star making central performance, one of the things that allowed The Hunger Games to stand out as something more than a generic young adult dystopia that cribbed its plot from Battle Royale was its colourful cast of supporting characters.
Flamboyantly costumed chaperone Effie Trinket was our window into the attitudes and lifestyle of the people of the Capitol and how they viewed the Hunger Games themselves.
As played by Elizabeth Banks, and with the movies removing the narrow focus of solely existing from Katniss's point of view, the movie version of Effie is actually a more fleshed out character than her book equivalent and, as such, remained an important part of the story for longer.
The first part of the Mockingjay finale set up an interesting, and off-book, plotline for Effie as she was evacuated unwillingly to the utilitarian District 13 and had to adapt away from her comforts and costumes. Then Part 2 basically forgot all about this, giving Banks little more than a couple of scenes as a background character.
In her final scene, Effie tells Katniss "don't be a stranger", but for the purposes of this final movie she essentially already is one.
