10 Movie Characters That Sequels Totally Forgot

3. Shepherd Book - Serenity

Not technically a sequel movie, Serenity nevertheless counts as a sequel as it follows on from the earlier storylines and characters of the Firefly TV show. It's impressive that the film brings back the whole ensemble cast of the show, but it's fair to say that they don't all get equal representation here.

Shepherd Derrial Book, Firefly's wise old priest played by Ron Glass, had a whole heap of secrets that were hinted at throughout the disappointingly brief run of the cult favourite series. For a start he wasn't really called Derrial Book nor had he always been a shepherd. There were strong hints of past ties to a senior role within the villainous Alliance and Book possessing a surprising amount of knowledge and skills well beyond a priest's purview.

There were, then, plenty of loose threads that a sequel movie could have tied up for Book. Instead we see him in one scene that shows that he has left the ship and its crew behind and is now living on the planet Haven, followed by a single later scene in which he is swiftly bumped off by the Alliance without ever revealing any of the secrets of his past or doing much to further the movie's plot.

Sadly Ron Glass himself died a few years ago, so even the chance of exploring his character's past through flashbacks in the frequently rumoured Firefly reboot is no longer possible.
