Look, we'll condone a two and a half hour movie about warring robot aliens that disguise themselves as cars. We'll even allow you to cast Shia LaBeouf and create a franchise based entirely on selling action figures. We survived the 90s, we've been through Batman and Robin, so we know the drill.

But audiences have to draw a line somewhere, and apparently that's still blackface. How do robot car aliens manage a minstrel show, you may ask? So do screenwriters Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman. "It's really hard for us to sit here and justify it," said Kurtzman. "We were very surprised when we saw it, too."

But Michael Bay saw no problem creating twin Autobots that were meant to serve as comic relief the same way Jar Jar Binks and Amos and Andy were in days past. They did not return for the sequels.
