Sarah Connor is a sci-fi icon and one of the most beloved female characters of all time. Played by Linda Hamilton, she was the target of the Terminator in the 1984 original. Terminator 2: Judgement Day would transform the character into a muscular, battle-hardened mother.

While both movies starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sarah was the emotional crux for the two films.

This made her absence in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines even more jarring.

Sarah was revealed to have died between films. A grown-up John Connor revealed that his mother died of Leukemia. Rather than die fighting, the character was written out through sickness. While not as controversial as the subsequent sequels, the lack of Sarah Connor was one of the criticisms of Terminator 3.

It was clear that this decision was an unpopular one as the succeeding Terminator media rectified this mistake. The television series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles ignored the events of the 3rd film.

Terminator Salvation featured a voice cameo of the character. Terminator: Genisys featured Emilia Clarke in the role. Finally, Hamilton returned to the role in Terminator: Dark Fate.
