There have been four live-action Asterix movies released to date, and though Gérard Depardieu has portrayed Asterix's trusty sidekick Obelix in all four movies, Asterix himself has been replaced by a new actor twice to date - with a third on the way.

Christian Clavier took the role for the first two Asterix movies, Asterix and Obelix vs. Caesar and Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra, but for 2008's belated threequel Asterix at the Olympic Games, Clovis Cornillac took over the role.

For 2012's Asterix and Obelix: God Save Britannia, Asterix was again switched out, with Edouard Baer taking the part this time.

It doesn't stop there, either: the upcoming fifth movie, Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Kingdom, will replace the title character once more, with famed filmmaker-actor Guillaume Canet - who is also directing the film - donning the mustache.
