The Marvel Cinematic Universe is populated with a wide array of heroes, ranging from the lawful good to the chaotic good. The likes of Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) fall within the former, while they are balanced out by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), who arguably is more likely to break any rules than follow them.

Benedict Cumberbatch's Stephen Strange is right there with Iron Man as a rule breaker. As a Master of the Mystic Arts, he has been bound by rules, regulations, protocols, and warnings, and has never had a problem ignoring them if he saw the greater good behind them.

In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Strange literally took a page out of the Darkhold, the book of evil, to go dream-walking not just in the body of a Variant in another universe (which would have broken all kinds of rules as it was), but as a revived corpse of a Variant. Very much a fight fire with fire attitude against Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen).

This wasn't the first time Strange abused the rules he was supposed to obey. In his first MCU appearance in 2016, he broke the natural order when he played with time travel, and in Avengers: Infinity War, after pledging his life to the protection of the Time Stone and swearing to never let it fall into Thanos' (Josh Brolin) hands, he willingly traded it for Tony Stark's life.
