5. Protagonist (Hero)
In the 2002 film starring an all-star cast of Chinese actors, Jet Li plays the nameless protagonist, a man skilled in the martial arts. Three assassins had previously attempted to kill the king, and our nameless Hero claims to have killed them all. It turns out it was just a ruse. The assassins are alive and well, with the hero's tale simply a lie in order to gain access to the king. And despite being surrounded by an army of bodyguards, Li's character could easily dispose of the king. But he changes his mind, realizing that the king they thought so evil is actually a necessary part of a united and successful China. In order for the king to remain in power for the future of the nation, the hero must be executed for his attempted grievances. In a maelstrom of arrows that 300 totally ripped off, the hero dies against the wall, a symbol of the united nation to follow.
