10 Movie Characters Who Fought Younger Versions Of Themselves

8. Doctor Smith - Lost In Space

Captain America v Captain America Endgame
New Line Cinema

The clumsy, cheesy 90s Lost In Space reboot had very little going for it, but at least there was Gary Oldman in full scenery chewing villain mode as the cowardly-yet-nefarious Doctor Smith (easily the most entertaining character in every iteration of the franchise).

Oldman also got to turn the hamminess dial up to eleven when playing the movie's true villain: a version of Doctor Smith from the future who has been bitten by a mutant spider and turned into a giant humanoid spider creature in CGI reminiscent of The Rock as the Scorpion King.

Spider-Smith, who wants to use Will Robinson's time portal to invade the earth with his spider spawn, makes it pretty clear that he sees his past self as pathetic. From the perspective of a mutant spider with dreams of world domination, younger Smith is petty and lacking in villainous vision in just wanting to kill the Robinson family for money.

The Winner:

Having the considerable advantage of being a giant mutant spider, older Smith casts his younger self into a pit of cobwebs with barely a fight. "I never liked me much anyway," he quips, which represents the general calibre of dialogue in Lost In Space pretty well.

Ultimately, though, Spider-Smith is killed by the escaping Robinson family who, for some reason, go down and rescue his younger self. Young Doctor Smith might lose the fight, then, but he did live to see the never-produced sequel.
