10 Movie Characters Who Fought Younger Versions Of Themselves

9. Edward Garrotte - Replicant

Muscles From Brussels Jean Claude Van Damme already fought himself onscreen in 1991's Double Impact. Although there he played twin brothers, two separate characters rather than two versions of the same person, so it wouldn't count for this list.

A decade later JCVD had a second bout of self-battering in this serial killer clone sci-fi.

Replicant sees Van Damme as Edward "The Torch" Garrotte, a wanted murderer with a penchant for setting women on fire. With the impeccable logic typical of high concept actioners in the era of Face/Off, there's only one way to get into the killer's mind and catch him. That is to team Michael Rooker's tough cop with a secret clone of Garrotte (also Van Damme), a character with the mind of a child inside the athletic body of Belgium's finest, only slightly over the hill, action icon.

While the Replicant is reluctant to harm his older self, Garrotte shows few such qualms, leading to a final act confrontation in a furnace room.

The Winner:

Unclear. Garrotte appears to have the upper hand after hitting his younger clone with a shovel. But then Rooker's character guns him down. It's not through his own efforts, then, but given that he's the one to get away from the fight with his life, we'll call the younger self the victor.
