10 Movie Characters Who Just Needed To Listen To Reason

9. Vin Merrick - Hustle

Rocky IV
Netflix

Adam Sandler has played a great golfer in Happy Gilmore, and great football players in Paul Crewe and Bobby Boucher, but in 2022's Hustle it was basketball that the actor turned to as he portrayed former player and overseas scout for the Philadelphia 76ers, Stanley Sugarman.

Stan's entire job was to travel across the world and find the next NBA star, and when everyone thought German youngster Haas (Moe Wagner) was going to be the next big thing, he advised the team not to draft him. A few months later, team owner Vin Merrick (Ben Foster) didn't listen, and picked Haas anyway, completely ignoring what Stan had to say.

It didn't take long for Vin to admit he should have listened to his talent scout, and that this was why they paid him the money that they did. He sent him back out on the road to work his magic again and find the 76ers the real deal.

That would be Bo Cruz (Juancho Hernangomez), someone Stan put his full faith and backing behind, only for Vin to once again completely ignore him. What is the point of sending an admittedly incredible scout to find you an equally incredible player, only to ignore him just like before? Cruz was instead picked by the Boston Celtics, the 76ers missed out on a superstar, and Vin resigned with egg on his face.
