10 Movie Characters Who Just Needed To Listen To Reason

8. Pádraic Súilleabháin - The Banshees Of Inisherin

Rocky IV
Searchlight Pictures

If you put Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson on screen together, chances are magic will be made. After appearing as friends and partners in killing people for money in In Bruges, the two played friends once again in The Banshees of Inisherin, until Gleeson's Colm Doherty decided he didn't like Farrell's Pádraic Súilleabháin anymore.

Naturally, the latter struggled to accept that his best friend all of a sudden wanted nothing to do with him, and so understandably wouldn't leave the issue alone. In denial, he persisted in inviting Colm to the pub like nothing had happened, then pestered his former friend for an explanation, which just sent Colm further down the road of not liking him.

At first, Pádraic's sister Siobhán (Kerry Condon) tried to make peace between them, but when Colm started chopping off his fingers and promised to continue if Pádraic didn't leave him alone, she pleaded with her brother to completely drop it. When a man would rather dismember his own hand than talk to you, you know you're fighting a losing battle.

If Pádraic had listened to Siobhán, he wouldn't have been forced to find his beloved Jenny the donkey dead with a literal handful of fingers wedged down her throat.
