10 Movie Characters Who Knew When To Quit (But Didn't)

4. Skurge - Thor: Ragnarok

Marvel Studios

For the bulk of Thor: Ragnarok, Asgardian warrior Skurge (Karl Urban) is presented as a man who will do anything to save his own hide.

He initially guards the Bifröst Bridge in Heimdall's (Idris Elba) absence, but once Hela (Cate Blanchett) shows up in Asgard and starts raising hell, he opts to side with her for his own survival.

Skurge becomes Hela's own personal executioner, though during the climactic battle at Asgard decides that he's seen enough bloodshed and can't side with her any longer.

He then dons a disguise and climbs aboard the refugee ship the Statesman, but Hela attempts to stop it taking off. And so, with the lives of the women and children onboard at risk, Skurge leaps out of the Statesman and starts blasting away at the assembled army of Berserkers.

This allows the Statesman to depart, though for his troubles Skurge is fatally stabbed through the chest by Hela's Necrosword. In one respect Skurge was one of the battle's big heroes, but only after he first tried to nope the hell out of the thing altogether.
