10 Movie Characters Who Ruined EVERYTHING
2. Dr. Susan McCallister - Deep Blue Sea
The road to hell is paved with good intentions as they say, and that was absolutely the case with Deep Blue Sea's Dr. Susan McCallister (Saffron Burrows) - a scientist who conducts research on mako sharks in the hope of fighting Alzheimer's disease.
But McCallister's quest for progress ultimately sees her cross the ethical rubicon, as she later reveals that she and her partner Jim Whitlock (Stellan SkarsgÄrd) genetically engineered the sharks to increase their brain size and facilitate their research.
The unintended side effect is that, by breaking scientific protocol so brazenly, they accidentally made the mako sharks smarter and therefore more efficient killers, kickstarting the shark rampage which threatens the lives of every human being in the underwater facility.
Susan was enough of a neon-signposted culprit that test audiences even lamented the fact that she survived in the original cut of the movie, prompting Warner Bros. to authorise a quick reshoot to kill Susan off and give her some "comeuppance" for her actions instead.
