5. Kitty Pryde - Elliot Page (X-Men: The Last Stand)

The Predecessors

You might not even know it, but Kitty Pryde aka Shadowcat has indeed been played by three actresses throughout the X-Men franchise.

In the very first X-Men film, Sumela Kay made a cameo appearance as the character, seen phasing through the wall of Professor X's (Patrick Stewart) office.

In X2, Kitty again appeared in cameo form while played by Katie Stuart, who phased through her bed, soldiers and walls during Stryker's (Brian Cox) raid on the X-Mansion.

Third Time's The Charm...

Kitty finally got a proper role in The Last Stand, then, with rising star Ellio Page cast in the role.

Though Page had to deal with the indignity of an ill-advised love triangle with Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) and Rogue (Anna Paquin), as well as a slightly dodgy battle with Juggernaut, she nevertheless brought an appealing moxie to the role.

Pryde then played a pivotal part in Days of Future Past, using her abilities to send Wolverine's (Hugh Jackman) consciousness back to 1973, and while more could've been done with Page's acting chops, she nevertheless nailed a note-perfect mixture of strength and vulnerability.

A Kitty Pryde solo film was in tacit development until recently, where the Disney/Fox merger effectively killed it. Boo.
