The Predecessors

In terms of cinematic Lois Lanes, Margot Kidder's original is always going to be a fan favourite.

She not only came first, but gave a wonderfully spunky performance opposite Christopher Reeve's Superman, even as the sequels increasingly marginalised her and even gave her a case of amnesia (courtesy of Supes' icky magic kiss).

In 2006's Superman Returns, Lois was played by Kate Bosworth, widely agreed to be a major step down from Kidder's performance.

Granted, Bosworth wasn't working with particularly memorable material, but many considered her too young and too passive to play the whip-smart reporter.

Third Time's The Charm...

For the DCEU-launching Man of Steel, the brilliant Amy Adams was cast as Lois, and with four Oscar nominations to her name before the film was released, she was by far the most feted actress to ever play the part.

Adams' casting remains easily some of the strongest in the entire DCU, proving a perfect fit for the inquisitive, fiercely committed Lois.

Though Lois was unfortunately sidelined in Batman v Superman and Justice League after enjoying a more substantial role in Man of Steel, Adams was on-paper the ultimate casting choice for Lois - yes, even more so than Kidder.
