Initially oozing onto our screens way back in 1984 during the first cinematic appearance of iconic Ghostbusters, the unmistakable Slimer has ultimately gone on to become one of the most recognisable aspects of the Buster-Verse.

But while Jason Reitman's nostalgia-heavy reigniting of the series with 2021's Afterlife boasted some of the series' most famous faces hopping back into the spotlight, the aforementioned bright green entity was notably passed up on for a recall.

Though some would class dropping such a familiar fiend as a bit of a missed opportunity to capitalise on even more of the nostalgia that seems to sell this sort of recapturing of the OG magic, the fact that Slimer hasn't really ever been as effective as he was in that initial outing in his many subsequent (and largely more annoying) showings in the likes of Ghostbusters II and The Real Ghostbusters animated series likely influenced the decision to leave him out this time around.

In the divisive being's place for this long-awaited sequel was the Slimer-esque Muncher, highlighting what made its apparent inspiration so successful in the first place by making a brief yet memorable impact.
