8. Chani - Dune
When a film is crammed to the brim with the sort of talent Denis Villeneuve has at his disposal for this year's titanic Dune, the potential for a few characters to not get a decent enough portion of the grand spotlight is somewhat higher than it would be for a film focused on a smaller collection of complex personalities.
And while the acclaimed sci-fi director undoubtedly also had one eye on a sequel when forging this spellbinding adventure across the planets of Arrakis, Caladan, and more mesmerising settings, those tuning in to see Zendaya get her moment in the blistering sun were left feeling a little shortchanged, it has to be said.
Despite appearing prominently in the film's marketing throughout the lead up to its release, Chani is only really seen in the visions of Timothée Chalamet's Paul Atreides until the last few moments of the 156-minute sandworm of a movie.
However, it's worth noting that despite only having around seven minutes of screen-time in Dune, Villeneuve looks set to focus more heavily on Chani in the now-confirmed follow-up, telling the LA Times:
