For those hoping and praying to one day seen Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson burst back onto the Fast scene and once again butt heads or join forces with Vin Diesel in the increasingly more insane action spectacles in the near future, Fast & Furious 9 perhaps gave fans the biggest sign yet of just how far away that reality actually is.

After last aiding Dominic Toretto and the gang in The Fate of the Furious and subsequently spinning off with Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw, Luke Hobbs wasn't even so much as given a nod in the latest Fast outing. Even Shaw managed to earn a cheeky moment in the film's closing credits, whereas Hobbs may as well have been cosplaying as John Cena in the WWE landscape.

There did seem to be a glimmer of hope that Rocky could ride (or die) again with the crew after Diesel made a very public call for him to return for the last few entries in the series on social media recently. But, Johnson's latest admission that he would "not be returning to the franchise" seems to have confirmed the continual ignoring of this once-pivotal character for the foreseeable.
