10 Movie Characters Whose Fates Were Left Frustratingly Unresolved

6. Dani - Midsommar

Midsommar Florence Pugh
A24

A movie set mostly in broad daylight in a Swedish field where people dance with flowers on their head? How could this possibly be one of the most disturbing (and best) horror movies of the year? Well, believe it because it is.

Director Ari Aster described this movie as a break-up movie dressed in the clothes of a folk horror film, and that's the most accurate description possible of Midsommar. As strange and brutally violent it can be, it's a movie about a couple who are unhappy with their relationship..... taken to the very very extreme.

After everything Dani (played brilliantly by Florence Pugh) has been through in the duration of the film, she is hailed as the May Queen, and has the responsibilty of choosing a final person to be sacrificed. She chooses her boyfriend (well, ex now) Christian to be burned alive.... inside a gutted bear. Dani watches him burn, initially crying before cracking a subtle smile.

Is Dani now a fully fledged member of this strange Swedish cult, or is she completely under the influence from all the hallucionagenic drugs they have given her? Or was Christian the worst boyfriend in the world and deserved to be burned alive? Or has she just gone insane? Is she going to go back home and resume her normal life as if nothing happened, or remain in this random field in Sweden?
