10 Movie Characters You Didn't Know Got Away With Breaking Laws

2. The Whole Crew - Ghostbusters (2016)

ecto-1 Ghostbusters
Columbia Pictures

Another popular eighties film here that managed to flaunt its disregard for the law with reckless abandon. Given the beloved status of the 1984 original, you could have been forgiven for hoping that the 2016 revamp was the one to be outlawed, it is, in fact, the first instalment in the series which comes under the scrutiny of the law.

The issue arises from the use of the ‘Ectomobile’, an automobile the ghost busting crew equip with a siren. While this may help them get to paranormal disasters, it is illegal, according to New York’s Navigation law.

Only vehicles used by the police department, fire department or public utility company have the authority to use sirens in case of emergency. While it may be argued that finding an actual ghost may be cause for concern, it hasn’t been codified into New York State law and so cannot be considered an actual event requiring the aid of the emergency services.

Jack Knott hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
