10 Movie Cliffhangers That Were Ignored In The Sequel

8. Shaw Heads To The Engineer Homeworld - Prometheus

Prometheus may have been a flawed and wildly uneven prequel(ish) to Ridley Scott's own Alien, but it did at least end with a tantalising tease for a potential sequel.

The cliffhanger ending sees sole human survivor Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) head off with android David (Michael Fassbender) to find the Engineer homeworld, with the intent of learning why they harbour such a murderous hate for humanity.

Sequel Alien: Covenant was released in 2017, but for reasons that will never really make sense, the generally well-liked character of Shaw was nowhere to be seen. Well, alive, anyway.

Shaw's pursuit of answers is never followed up on, as late in the movie we learn that she was killed by David, who used her as part of his alien experiments, and whose mutilated corpse we briefly see.

Oh, and David literally nukes the Engineers out of existence, ensuring they're not around to answer any questions either.

For anyone invested in Prometheus' sequel-baiting ending, this felt like a massive cop-out, doing a lousy disservice to both Shaw, a character who had a lot more to offer, and the intriguing Engineers.
