10 Movie Cliffhangers That Were Ignored In The Sequel

2. Neo Has Powers Outside The Matrix - The Matrix Reloaded

The second Matrix movie ends with two major cliffhangers, one of which was dealt with in threequel The Matrix Revolutions, while the other was categorically ignored.

Though Agent Smith's (Hugo Weaving) trip into the real world through a possessed crew member, Bane (Ian Bliss), ends with Neo (Keanu Reeves) beating Bane to death, the other implication of Reloaded's ending remains a mystery to this very day.

In the film's final minutes, we see Neo display superhuman powers outside of the Matrix, destroying the incoming Machines with his mere mind alone, after which he falls into a coma.

Despite all of the expository explanations given in the first two Matrix sequels, it's baffling that Revolutions never explains Neo's newfound abilities, nor treats them as much of a big deal at all.

There's a prominent fan theory that, by reaching the Architect in Reloaded, Neo was able to wirelessly interface with the machine mainframe, hence his ability to destroy the Machines without being jacked in.

Then there are those who think it proves that the real world is simply another layer of the Matrix designed to prevent people from actually escaping it.

Either way, this fascinating thread is dropped like a bad habit in Revolutions, and the most recent sequel Resurrections didn't shed any extra light on it either.
