10 Movie Concepts That Shouldn't Have Worked (But Somehow Did)

7. A Film Where Adolf Hitler Is A Child's Imaginary Friend (Jojo Rabbit)

Imagine living in a world where a director would have the balls to make a movie depicting a man responsible for mass genocide as a child's imaginary friend...

Welcome to 2019 and if any other director was at the helm of this concept you would have rightful cause for concern, yet Taika Waititi has made a career out of tackling questionable subjects with the kind of fearlessness that is needed when faced with such a volatile figure.

Waititi had gone on record to state just how often this adaptation of Caging Skies had been turned down by studios in the past. However, in 2019 he would finally get his wish, but only if he agreed to play the Nazi leader himself, Adolf Hitler.

He did and one of the most unlikely stories ever to find their way onto the big screen went on to become an absolute darling on the festival circuit, even winning the Grolsch People's Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Critics have raved over Waititi's 'genuinely touching' picture and the likes of Sam Rockwell and Scarlett Johannson have been lauded for their roles in the satirical black comedy about a Hitler Youth who realised his mother had been hiding a Jewish girl in their attic.

2019 has been an unpredictable year, but ending it with a critically adored film that heavily features an idiotic Hitler portrayal, surely sticks out as one of the strangest occurrences of the last decade.
