10 Movie Concepts That Shouldn't Have Worked (But Somehow Did)
6. A Film About A Farting Corpse (Swiss Army Man)
Where do you even begin with this one?
Well, it stars two of the brightest talents of their generation in Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe. Oh, and the latter just so happens to play a multi-purpose corpse.
Yep, you read that right.
It definitely should not have worked. Yet, against all odds, Radcliffe's Manny went down a storm with a large section of the public and found himself becoming a meme-icon in the process.
Credit to A24 Films for green-lighting the picture in the first place, as a bigger company may not have had the guts to allow the Harry Potter star to fart his way through a movie and the few who walked out of the film's initial screening at Sundance would of preferred it if they didn't.
That being said, Radcliffe's ridiculously talented Manny also paved the way for a surprisingly moving performance from Dano, who tragically realises that his interactions and relationship with Manny have framed him into appearing as though he has been stalking a young girl.
Under the film's bonkers exterior lies a narrative that confronts the profound themes of faith and guilt, but it's still hard to believe that a film this hard to categorise was actually brought into existence.
