10 Movie Deaths No-One Was Ready For

For all M Night Shyamalan's Unbreakable trilogy is about superhero subversion, it was also fundamentally pinned on the idea that comic books were a glorified version of real history. In other words, every trope that Shyamalan was seeking to subvert as a film-maker still HAD to exist within the universe of the movies for the logic of his twists to work.

In that respect, the fact that the third film was set up as a showdown movie suggested that at the very least, we could expect to see a final, glorious face-off between David Dunn, The Beast and Mr Glass. We'd been subverted enough to that point, after all.

And then, just as it looks like that's where it's all headed, all three of the trio are killed off unspectacularly in the decidedly unglamorous setting of a carpark. It's not quite a cop out because it fits the idea of subversion, but it's nothing like how anyone saw it going.
