10 Movie Deaths We All Wanted (But Never Got)
3. Ephialtes - 300
You'd be fine for mistaking Ephialtes as a distant cousin of Gollum, as this hunchbacked creature is every bit as duplicitous.
As the 300 Spartans march to wage war against the Persian army under the leadership of the chiselled King Leonidas, they encounter the deformed Spartan, Ephialtes, who asks to fight alongside them. Leonidas tests him, and upon discovering that he cannot even muster the strength to lift his shield, the Spartan King lets him down gently and leaves him behind.
Little did they know that this fateful meeting with Ephialtes would be the death of them all.
The 300 continue, defeating wave after wave of the best warriors the Persian army has to offer whilst suffering very few casualties of their own.
You would think that sympathy from a King willing to understand your affliction would be enough, but that is not how it came across to Ephialtes. All Spartans long for is a warrior's death, and Ephialtes felt Leonidas had denied him that.
Instead, he travels to see King Xerxes of the Persians and informs him of the goat trail that will allow them to outflank the Spartan forces, condemning all of the remaining 300 to slaughter.
This double-cross came at the measly price of wealth and women, making the betrayal all the more bitter.
