10 Movie Directors Who Dated Their Stars

8. Rupert Sanders And Kristen Stewart

One of the more sensational pairings of star and director occurred right before our eyes a couple of years ago, splashed all over the tabloids in the sort of voyeuristic way that only tabloids can manage (for better or for worse) (mainly worse, let's be honest). Kristen Stewart was previously best known not only for starring in the Twilight movies, but also for dating her on-screen love interest Robert Pattinson. Oh and for looking moody during photo shoots and public appearances but, really, if we'd had to make all those Twilight movies, we'd look pretty peeved a lot of the time as well. Sure, the money was good, but at what price did it all come? Anyway, it all went wrong when she was filming - of all things - Snow White And The Huntsman. A dark, gritty update of the original Snow White story (which we were all obviously clamouring for) which starred Stewart in the title role, the film was helmed by first-time director Rupert Sanders, who nonetheless impressed the studio with his commercial work. He was also married, to Liberty Ross, sister of film composer Atticus Ross - which ended as soon as his affair with Kristen Stewart, which started on the set of the film, was disclosed. Sanders and Ross ended up getting divorced, and Stewart issued a public apology to Pattinson at People Magazine. Which didn't end up fixing things, sadly, so looks like Bella and Edward weren't quite as immortal IRL as they were on screen. Woops.
