5. Ebola Syndrome (1996)

Does exactly what it says on the label. Ebola. Ultimate sick f**k Kai performs all sorts of perverted deeds in an ultimate sick f**k Category 3 Hong Kong movie. He kills his boss and the boss's wife and flees to South Africa where he works in a Chinese restaurant. Whilst out sourcing cheap meat in the bush, Kai and his new boss come across a native village where the population is afflicted with Ebola. Ever the gentleman, Kai rapes a dying woman and becomes infected himself. But... it turns out he is the one in ten million people who can survive Ebola to become infection carriers. Kai comes back to Hong Kong after again killing the boss and the boss's wife. They were both afflicted with Ebola and Kai cooks them up as burgers thus infecting South Africa. In Hong Kong, Kai merrily spreads Ebola wherever he wanders. When the authorities cop on to the fact that it is Kai spreading the virus, they try to chase him down, and sicko Kai goes on the run, taking a girl hostage and spitting deliberately to infect people. The film is terrific fun for people who like extreme Asian films or extreme films in general. Ebola is the one disease-movie of the list that features a real life disease. The Ebola virus is certainly a menace. There are a couple of variations of the virus and the illness usually comes from human contact with infected animals. The virus was uncovered in the then Zaire in 1976 and there has been sporadic outbreaks of the different Ebola viruses over a wide range of African countries. Ebola initially presents with flu like symptoms - fever, headache, vomiting, diarrhoea and quickly degenerates into internal and external bleeding. The disease causes fatality by making the subject bleed to death. This is the stuff that nightmares are made of.
