10 Movie Easter Eggs Added At The Last Minute
9. The Post-Credits Rick-Roll - Ralph Breaks The Internet
The Easter Egg
If you stick around for the credits of Ralph Breaks the Internet, you'll be tempted with the promise of a teaser trailer for Frozen 2.
After about three seconds of watching a snowflake fall, however, the scene jarringly shifts to, yes, a Rick Roll, with Ralph (John C. Reilly) re-enacting the iconic music video of Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" for a solid 30 seconds.
The Story
The film's co-director Phil Johnston stated in interviews that the gag was first conceived "ages ago", but they simply assumed there wasn't time or resources to actually include it in the final film.
Johnston elaborated, "Then we pitched it to someone and they’re like ‘Oh you’ve got to do that.’ It was one of the last [things we did.]"
But there was another hurdle beyond time - John C. Reilly was on vacation when the scene was being assembled.
Ever the sport, though, Reilly took a boat to New York, quickly performed his take in a recording booth and then immediately returned back to his family. What a guy.
Producer Clark Spencer said, "Because we were in that time constraint of ‘If we’re going to do it we need to record it now and get it into animation immediately,’ he did it and the animators pulled it off."
