10 Movie Endings That Are Secretly Depressing
3. The Nutcracker And The Four Realms
Plot:
Clara is gifted a magical fantasy world her recently-dead mother created. She journeys into the land trying to stop the unrest that has spread through the kingdoms due to her mother's death. Clara helps bring peace to the four realms and returns home to her family.
But Wait...
A story like this could go a few different ways. It would make sense if the four realms are imaginary, based on the stories her mother told. Clara could imagine an adventure in these lands that helps her process the death of her mother. Instead, the story shows us magical engineering, speaks of her mother as an inventor, and implies that it is a real living world. A world that was reliant enough on her mother that without their creator corruption overwhelmed it.
Hey, your mom was secretly God of a fantasy world, is a lot to drop on someone. This is a lifetime responsibility Clara must carry. Despite having siblings, her mother made sure Clara is the only one who knows about it. Guaranteeing a life of loneliness for Clara. She will have to lie to her family as she secretly continues to help the four realms so they don't fall to war without her.
