10 Movie Endings That Are Secretly Depressing
2. Avengers: Endgame
Plot:
Avengers: Endgame is the culmination of 22 films worth of interconnecting stories. It draws to a close arcs of character's we've been following for over ten years and hints at potential new adventures in a world reshaped by the film.
At the end of Endgame, through the use of time-travel, the Avengers are able to recreate the infinity gauntlet and not only kill off Thanos and his army once and for all, they also were able to snap back into existence all those who had disappeared five-years earlier. With only two tragic deaths, all in all the Avengers did pretty well for themselves and their world.
But Wait...
Because Thanos came from the past into the future and then was killed, he never returned to the past. So, running parallel to MCU-timeline is a timeline where Thanos never attacked, no one disappeared for five-year and all the Avengers are alive and well.
Captain America jumps into another timeline to live the life he wished he'd had. This sets a really disturbing precedent. It's arguably morally wrong to mess up another timeline to get what you want, but that option is now permanently on the table. And every Avenger knows there is a better version of their world just a timeline away.
To be fair, if Marvel really owns the consequences of the multiple timelines, and the trailers for the new Spiderman make it look like they will, this could make for some really fascinating movies to come.
