10 Movie Endings That Leave More Questions Than Answers
8. Minority Report
Things seemed to end a little bit too well for our protagonist John Anderton (played by Tom Cruise) in Minority Report, which begs the question: did the film's climax happen? Or was it all in John's head?
Minority Report is set in a dystopian future where police can arrest someone pre-murder using three mutants who can predict crimes happening before they occur. The film follows a very bleak timeline.
While crimes are stopped before they occur, it begs the question of if the arrests are ethical or not since the "murderer" hasn't done the offence yet.
While on the run for a murder he hasn't committed (yet), John Anderton lands himself in a device called a halo; this device is a punishment for pre-murder, which puts the alleged murderer into a perpetual sleep state.
Later, our protagonist escapes the halo and saves the day. This would've been a believable ending if it all wasn't for a dialogue scene that changed everything. While John is being put to sleep, the halo technician says, "It's actually kind of a rush. They say you have visions. That your life flashes before your eyes. That all your dreams come true."
These four short sentences have many believing that all the events that occurred after John escaped the halo aren't real. Is John Anderton still stuck in the halo? Or was it just a fluke that all his dreams came true? What happens to the other prisoners in the Halo now John exposed Lamar Burgess for the murder he is? Will they continue to use the Minority Report system?
