10 Movie Fan Theories The Creators Completely Rejected

7. Grease

Jurassic World
Paramount Pictures

The Theory: This one's been doing the rounds for quite some time, and turns Grease from a jovial, feelgood musical into a morbid, depressing character study. Yay!

The flying car at the end of the movie has always been a point of discussion, but some fans think that it's more than just a quirky design choice, and is in fact meant to represent lead character Sandy jetting off to heaven.

During the Summer Nights song, Danny and Sandy describe how they first met, with Danny singing “I saved her life, she nearly drowned". The theory goes that Sandy actually did drown, and the whole movie is a fantasy brought on by the lack of oxygen her brain is suffering.

So when the red convertible flies into the air at the end of the movie... Sandy is moving on, steadily climbing up to heaven.

The Rejection: Thankfully, this theory was flat-out denied by the writer of the original Grease book (and musical), Jim Jacobs.

Word came straight from the man himself (via TMZ) who said that yes, there are some differences between the novel and the film, but one thing remains consistent across both: Sandy is alive and well when the story ends.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
