Before Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter was for kids. The world and tone were magical and relied heavily on the books. Prisoner of Azkaban, led by the brilliant Alfonso Cuaron, took the franchise to darker territories. Easily the best in the franchise, it takes the hand it is dealt and turns Harry Potter into the wizard fans wanted. No longer a child, Harry Potter was growing up.

The story takes a darker turn, but then so does the style. While still led by young children, the film's darker tone delivers and reinvents not just the character, but the music, sound effects, and world. Although the character of Harry Potter wasn't radically changed, the story world brings out an element that was missing in the previous films.

It showed this franchise was willing to switch things up for the better. The change in directors and direction works wonders and seems to fit the scope of Harry Potter better than its predecessors. Looking back, it's easy for fans to remember this was the film when they began to like Harry Potter.
