10 Movie Franchises That Brilliantly Reinvented Characters

4. Wolverine Grows Old - Logan

Toy Story Bo Peep
Fox

From the opening scene something was different. The Wolverine was changed. He wasn't the superhero we remember; he was brutally defending his car. There is a dark past, and this Wolverine can't seem to forget it. He's done with superhero stuff. The character change presented in Logan is understandable, but what makes it so shocking is that there wasn't really a problem with the character.

Everyone already loved Hugh Jackman's take; the movies may have ebbed and flowed in quality, but people loved Wolverine as a constant. But somehow Logan makes him better. With no holds barred, James Mangold began by making him older and then he went for a hard R rating.

A perfect swan song for Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, this film reinvented the character. While some changes in films can be jarring and totally destroy the character, Logan manages to create something new that makes sense. The Logan we get in this film has been rebuilt, and audiences loved it.
