10 Movie Franchises That Brilliantly Reinvented Characters
3. Thor's Character Is Destroyed For The Better - Thor Ragnarok
Before the God Of Thunder got Russo'd, he got Waititi'd and went from quite possibly the worst Avenger to the best overnight. Where before he was a boring Shakespearean dude, he was reinvented into the comic relief.
During his first and second solo outings and the first and second Avengers films, Thor was just a body. He could fight, call down thunder, and explain cosmic things. The writers and directors tried, but something just didn't click. Joss Whedon hinted at the direction Thor might take by giving him a few humorous lines, but Whedon didn't fully commit to the approach.
It took an oddball like Taika Waititi to do it. He started from scratch by ridding the world of any excess - first went the Warriors Three, then the hammer, and then the hair. New supporting characters were brought in, improv was encouraged on set, and the story was channeled to show off what Thor was really the god of.
While there were complaints about the new take on Thor, the general public just couldn't resist this new fun and funny version. The change extended over to Infinity War to further solidify the new Thor, and fans couldn't be happier.
