10 Movie Franchises That Have Backed Themselves Into A Corner

5. Having A Less Offensive Crime In The Sequel - Horrible Bosses

Though there's no reason why it should ever happen, Horrible Bosses 3 will probably find itself in theatres within the next couple of years - you know, in the same way that The Hangover Part III did, and everybody knows how that one turned out (not very good at all). The weird thing about Horrible Bosses 2, then, was the fact that the plot centered around kidnapping, which was less offensive than the crime that the characters attempted in the original movie - murder. Surely it makes sense that the sequel movie in a franchise like this should try to up the ante? Kidnapping just seems dull compared to the act of murder. So what's next? If the characters revert to murder, it's all "been there done and that," and if they resort to a crime that is inherently less offensive than kidnapping, then the movie is bound to suffer as a result. After all, the thrill of of the first movie stemmed from the fact that the characters were trying to murder their bosses. As in, they wanted to kill them dead. Who wants to see anything less shocking?
