10 Movie Franchises That Need To Ditch ONE Thing

8. All The Legacy Characters - Star Wars

While we're stretching the definition of "one thing" a little here, you know what the worst thing is about Star Wars? Its refusal to cut the past loose and just move the hell on.

Divisive though it was with the fanbase, The Rise of Skywalker felt like an emphatic end to the Skywalker Saga, offering a firm farewell to the legacy cast and potentially closing the book on Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), and Poe (Oscar Isaac) too.

Though there are a number of Star Wars movies currently in development - most of which may or may not ever actually get made - it's just a matter of time before Disney announces development on Episodes X, XI, and XII.

The best thing these movies could do? Draw a line under everything associated with the Skywalkers and give us a fresh collection of characters in a region of the galaxy light-years away from Tatooine.

Of course, Disney is allergic to the idea of a truly original Star Wars film and deathly afraid of any new characters who don't have a convoluted familial tie to the existing heroes and villains, but it sure is nice to dream, right?
