10 Movie Franchises That Need To Ditch ONE Thing

7. The Terrible Human Subplots - Sonic The Hedgehog

To give the Sonic the Hedgehog movies some credit, they at least got the most important part right - Sonic, after some post-production re-working, is a faithful recreation of his video game counterpart.

The human element was certainly less-appealing in the first movie - because honestly who really cares about human protagonist Tom Wachowski (James Marsden)? - but at least it was deployed sparingly enough.

Following the first film's success, though, the sequel bafflingly decided it needed to double down on the human subplots, and so devoted an entire 15 minutes in the middle of the movie to the wedding of Maddie's (Tika Sumpter) sister Rachel (Natasha Rothwell) in Hawaii.

At this point, Sonic (Ben Schwartz), Tails (Colleen O'Shaughnessey), and Knuckles (Idris Elba) are pushed to the periphery for a quarter-hour of blatant cutting room floor material that should've been trimmed down to a couple of minutes at most.

With Sonic the Hedgehog 3 currently in development for a 2024 bow, the filmmakers need to appreciate that not a single solitary soul who pays to see a Sonic movie cares about any of this nonsense.
