10 Movie Franchises That Screwed Up Their Final Part

5. Taken 3

Look, there’s no denying the first Taken is a great action film, but why on earth was this series allowed to get three of them? It’s a question that still needs answering to this day.

Taken was always going to get sequels from the moment movie-goers paid hundreds of millions to see it. The fact the plot was thin, but nobody seemed to care because Neeson was so bloody good with a gun and that was good enough to convince the people with power to sanction an average second movie and then absolutely atrocious third.

By the time the finale hit screens in 2014, Neeson’s character’s popularity was already plummeting and nobody seemed to care a jot that the Irishman’s family were in danger for the millionth time. Whereas the first had memorable sequences such as THAT torture scene, and the second had enough action to keep its core fan base remotely interested, the third has nothing to make it worth rewatching - even its final scene at an airport fails to get lift-off.

Taken 3 tried its best to revamp the series and for that, deserves at least an ounce of credit. Shortly after the film was released, Neeson expressed interest in filming a fourth. Nearly four years on and it is safe to say that ship has sailed and, if it ever comes back, it would not be worth getting on again.

Sport and Film. I love them both. And I'm extremely lucky to write about two of my biggest passions in life. Most of the time, I'm at the Daily Express newspaper writing about football, tennis and F1. But, when I'm out of there, I let my imagination run wild and pen down my thoughts on the film series' I love. WhatCulture gives me the chance to write about the movie industry - an industry I really care about. And for that, I'm extremely grateful. And hope you, if you're reading this, enjoy what I think about stuff.
